After Leading 65 Laps,
An Engine Miss Puts Derek Back to 7th |
Derek had an
excellent run at the Mason-Dixon 200 spoiled by
an engine miss.
After time-trialing
second, Derek drew the 10th starting spot.
At
the green the #35 moved through the field,
taking 2nd from Cole Timm on lap 75. Ten laps
after the mid race pit break for tires, Derek
moved by Tyler Church for the lead.
But
slowing with an audible engine miss, the #35 was
passed by Church with 25 laps to go.
A two car
spin with just two laps to go forced a
Green-White-Checker ending. On the restart
Derek just couldn't go and fell back to seventh. |

A Broken Axle & a DNS at
OC |
Derek found
Orange County Speewaay a ton of fun. The
#35 was quick all weekend - probably a top five
car just as it was unloaded.
Derek
time trialed in 9th place, which turned into the
outside pole on the redraw.
But right
before taking the green, Derek spun the tires to
clean them up, and a rear axle let go. The
#35 was listed as a DNS.
Ramstrom Racing will next head
to Southern National Motorsports Park in
Lacuma, NC on Nov. 23rd for the Mason Dixon
Meltdown, the final PASS race of
the season. |

Saturday, October 5th
|
2nd at the DAV |
Derek had a
nice run to a second place finish at the Seekonk
Speedway DAV Fall Classic on Sat. Oct. 5th. The
#35 was fast all weekend, posted the win in the
heat, and came through the event undamaged.
After the redraw for the top nine, Derek
started from sixth out of 24. Barely missing a
lap three tangle that took out three top
runners, Derek battled poor track position on
several restarts.
A tangle with another
car at about the lap 60 mark sent the #35 to the
end of the pack.
Flying through the
field, Derek set his best lap of 12.973 sec.
(and second fastest of the race) on lap 64 on
the way to the second place finish.
Ramstrom Racing will next head down to Orange
County Speedway on Sat. Oct. 19th for the PASS
South Orange Blossom Special 150, followed by a
trip to Southern National SpMotorsports Park in Lacuma, NC
on Nov. 23rd for the final PASS South race of
the season. |

Jay
Fogleman Prepares for a Ride in the #35 at
the TD Bank 250 |
Durham, North Carolina's Jay Fogleman
has the ride in the #35 for the July 21st TD
Bank 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway as Derek
recovers from his accident. Jay is leading the
PASS South points and slots second in the PASS
National points.
The Ramstrom Racing team
used the 150 at OPS that was rescheduled to
Friday, July 12th as a warmup for the 250.
The #35 raced the consi since it had not
run in the heats on the original 6/23 Sunday
event that was halted by rain after the SLM
heats were completed. Jay had a strong run up to
a third place consi finish.
In the
feature, Jay pitted a couple of times for
adjustments to dial in the #35 to the track
conditions. The team decided to park the #35 at
the 103 lap mark figuring enough had been
learned for the day.
Derek's foot is
healing nicely. Surgery is planned for the
end of July to remove some of the screws and
plates that were used in the repair. Afterwards,
Derek is off to extensive rehab to rebuild
strength and mobility. Chances of a return to
racing a PASS feature in 2013 look slim. |

to repair the damage and is being released from
the hospital on Monday. More to come.

19th at Beech Ridge |
Friday
practice revealed the cause of the vibration
problem at OPS - a defective, unbalanced tire.
A poor draw for the heat was followed by a
win in the consi after a battle with the #29 of
Trevor Sanborn.
In the feature, an early
tangle out of two onto the back straight put
Derek down a lap. The #35 was then never in a
position to receive a Lucky Dog lap back and so
ended up two laps down at the finish. |

SEASON
OPENER |
SUN.
APRIL 21st |
|
19th at OPS with Suspension Problems |
Practice went well on both Sat. and
Sun. Adjusted several things and the car
continued to pick up time. A good run in the
heat earned a 7th place starting spot out of
the 47 SLMs present.
After about 20 laps
of the 150 feature, the front suspension lost
grip and the steering began vibrating. The #35
pitted for a look, but nothing seems obivously
wrong. Possibly a failed shock.
Unfortunatly there was nothing we could do at
this point, so Derek just stayed far out of the
way and ran to score a finish. |
